Energy & sustainability · Solar power: Cilento sunshine, inside the barn

Milking, cooling the milk and sprouting barley are the most energy-hungry jobs on a farm like ours. We run them largely on sunshine.

Where our energy goes

86.58 kW, with storage

The plant has grown step by step: the first panels in 2014, further additions over the years and, in 2025, more panels plus battery storage.

Our solar plant generates power while the sun is up; the batteries store it and release it when it's needed, evenings included. Together they largely run the three processes milk quality depends on:

  • Milking — the DeLaval systems, at every milking.
  • Milk cooling — the chill that starts right after milking.
  • Sprouting — the light, water and climate control of our two HydroGreen systems.
A shorter chain

Every step we keep at home is one less journey

The more we do on the farm, the less has to travel.

01

Home-grown forage

Maize and triticale grow on our own fields and become silage without ever leaving the farm.

02

Feed made on site

Barley sprouts every day a few metres from the feed trough, powered by our own plant.

03

Milk we make into cheese

From 2027 the milk will go straight to our own dairy, with no one in between.

We only publish what we have actually done: this section will be updated once the project is under way.

Milk from our own buffalo, made into cheese in our own dairy.
